Rappaw Veterinary Care has been running a highly successful Puppy Pre-School at our
Plimmerton
clinic since 2002. Over the years, hundreds of puppies have graduated from our classes and gone on to become well-behaved pets and responsible canine citizens. We welcome puppies from across the Plimmerton area and surrounding communities to enjoy a fun, structured learning environment.
The Aim of Puppy Pre-School
The Puppy Pre-School classes are designed with three key aims:
1. To socialise your puppy in a safe, supportive environment
2. To provide basic puppy training instruction, helping your puppy develop good manners and confidence
3. To educate clients on puppy behaviour, health, and ongoing care
By focusing on these areas, we help set the foundation for a happy, confident dog and a strong bond between you and your puppy.
Puppy Pre-School Attendance Requirements
Before your puppy can attend they must;
- Be at least 6 weeks of age and no older than 12 weeks of age (unless consented by the vet nurse instructor)
- Have had at least their first DHP (Distemper/Hepatitis/Parvo) vaccination at least 1 week prior to attending their first class.
- Not have been sick in the week prior to the class, unless seen by a veterinarian and cleared for attendance.
- Be enrolled in a class and contacted by the vet nurse in charge of the puppy pre-school classes to confirm their attendance.
- Paid the course fee in full.
These requirements ensure all puppies are safe, healthy, and ready to get the most out of the program.
Preparing for Puppy Pre-School
To help your puppy succeed in class:
- Give them a small, early dinner on the evening of the class so they are motivated for treats.
- Always bring your puppy on a lead and arrive on time for each session.
Our goal is to make each class enjoyable and productive, giving your puppy the best start in life.

Course Structure and Duration
The Puppy Pre-School course runs for four weeks, with one-hour classes each week. All classes are held in our all-weather classroom at Rappaw Veterinary Care, 18 Ulric Street, Plimmerton. Each session is managed by our qualified practice vet nurses, who have attended specialist courses in dog behaviour, and supported by our practice veterinarians.
Classes include a mix of guided play, training exercises, and educational sessions for puppy owners. Puppies learn to interact safely with other dogs and people, while owners gain practical skills to reinforce positive behaviour at home.
Puppy Pre-School Cost and Inclusions
The total cost for the four-week course is $110, which includes a comprehensive puppy pack. Puppy packs contain:
- Useful information on puppy care, training, and nutrition
- A fantastic Royal Canin food offer
- Discount vouchers for pet supplies
Benefits of Puppy Pre-School
Puppy Pre-School helps prevent behaviour problems before they develop, making life with your puppy more enjoyable. Puppies that attend are generally more confident, better socialised, and easier to train at home. Owners also gain valuable knowledge on health, nutrition, and ongoing care for their growing puppy.
